OUR HISTORY

We tell you our story, from its origins in Valdepeñas to its consolidation and worldwide recognition as a revolutionary brand built on the values of exclusivity, quality, and diversity.

1997

In 1997 we acquired the Jaume Serra Winery, located in Vilanova i la Geltrú, and with it was born the Vinos de Familia GARCÍA-CARRIÓN project, consisting of the grouping of different DOs. With the purchase of Jaume Serra, we also acquired the Commercial Delegation in Sacramento (USA), which had been marketing Jaume Serra cava in that country since 1989 under the Cristalino brand. From 2000, we relaunched Jaume Serra cava in America and Jaume Serra Cristalino achieved significant sales in the USA.

1987

Built in 2000, the Viña Arnáiz winery is a window into the history of the area and the entire Ribera del Duero region. Its main building was constructed by the prestigious architect Manuel de la Torre using centuries-old, 100% reclaimed materials. It combines the latest technology with respect for traditional methods. In addition, in front of the winery, we have 100 hectares that form a sea of vineyards capable of transporting those privileged enough to enjoy this spectacular wave of vines. At Viña Arnáiz, we produce wines that truly represent the Ribera del Duero brand. We also cover the Rueda and Toro DOs, historic wine-producing areas.

2006

In 2006, we acquired our winery in La Rioja, located in the town of Labastida, a place steeped in winemaking tradition. Currently known as Bodega Marqués de Carrión, it boasts over 15,000 square meters of built area, blending the latest technology with the utmost respect for winemaking tradition. It houses the avant-garde "Museum of Illusions," designed by renowned artist Jull Dziamski. This winery has established itself as the foundation for major wine brands such as Marqués de Carrión and Antaño.

2007

The acquisition of Bodega los Llanos in 2007, one of the oldest and most traditional wineries in Valdepeñas, consolidated GARCÍA-CARRIÓN's position as a market leader in Spanish wine. Señorío de los Llanos wine is housed in its underground cave, the largest in Spain. This cave is currently known as the Cave of Art, a name that dates back to 1977 and was further developed in 1997 when Sara Montiel was named the godmother of the cave. Since then, illustrious figures of today have had streets named after them.

2016

In 2016, we added the historic Paternina winery in La Rioja, now known as Bodega Marqués de Carrión, to the family. Located in the city of Haro, and with one of the largest barrel warehouses in Spain, the winery boasts spectacular dimensions: 40,000 square meters built on a plot of approximately 80,000 square meters. Since its founding in 1896, it has been visited by celebrities, including the American writer Ernest Hemingway, a professed lover of wines from this Certified Designation of Origin.
