Wine type: Red
Grape type: Tempranillo and Carignan, two varietals of grape that provide aromas of red fruits
Viña del Mar, wine from the Catalonia D.O., are produced at the Jaume Serra winery located on top of a hill that slopes gently toward the Mediterranean Sea in Vilanova i La Geltrú (Barcelona). Its origins date back to 1647, with a walled estate from the seventeenth century that served to protect an old fort that, legend has it, contained a passage that connected it to the town.
Today the winery is surrounded by an estate of 125 hectares containing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo and Chardonnay vineyards. The winemaking facilities have a grape production capacity of 5 million kg. with the most modern production and aging systems and a capacity for 20 million bottles of wine per year. It currently houses 3,500 American and French oak barrels used to obtain wines of Crianza, Reserve and Gran Reserve quality.
Grapes of the Tempranillo and Carignan varietals are stemmed and squeezed to be macerated with the must extracting the desired color and tannins for a mid-range wine. Following de-vatting and light pressing fermenting continues in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 25°C.
Cherry red color with ruby reflections, shiny and clean. It has a deep aroma of ripe fruit. The palate is fleshy and well structured, with direct and harmonious retronasal olfaction.
We recommend serving very cold, between 16 and 18°C.
Serve with braised meats and Mediterranean cuisine.
